Howdy and welcome to my portfolio!
My name is Sarah Garlock and I'm a musician and software developer. Feel free to check out my current projects, songs or just learn more about me. Thanks for stopping by! 🤘
Hey there, I'm Sarah, a tech enthusiast with a passion for music. After graduating from Turing School for Software and Design, where I dived into back-end programming using languages like Ruby, Rails, SQL, and API integration, I'm now all set to kickstart my tech journey. The seven-month program was intense, but it equipped me with the skills for my first tech role. I particularly enjoy playing around with data and creating visualizations that tell compelling stories.
On the flip side, music has always been a huge part of my life. I'm a self-taught drummer and guitarist, and I even scored a music scholarship to Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS. There, I honed my skills in music theory and instrumentation while rocking out with various ensembles. One of my proudest moments was performing my Senior Recital on a whopping 10 different percussion instruments!
When I'm not coding or jamming, you can find me teaching music at Mountainside Music Academy. I love sharing my passion for music with others and helping them discover the joy of playing an instrument. Currently, I'm diving into the world of music production with Ableton Live, exploring new sounds, and pushing my creative boundaries.
I'm on the lookout for a company with a meaningful mission that values mentorship and growth. If you're looking for someone who can code up a storm and rock out on stage, I might just be the perfect fit for your team!
Jana Social is an application for caregivers of adults with disabilities. It is a place for caregivers to connect with other caregivers, share stories, and find events in their area. Jana Social is a place for caregivers to find support and community. Users can create/join events, search for other users, and add friends. This project was created for the Turing School of Software and Design's Mod 3 Group Project. The project was built over the course of 12 days. We had three teams working on the project: Users, Events, and Location/Friends. Each team was split up between back end and front end. The back end teams were responsible for building out the API endpoints and the front end teams were responsible for building out the user interface.

GitHub RepositoryOn February 7th, 2024, I gave a talk at the Music && Technology meetup in Denver. This talk was about my process of taking vocals from a professional producer (Bright Lights) and making a song out of it. It was a very fun process and I look forward to doing more of this in the future!
